Nice Hotel ,casino terrible neighborhood worse.

Hotel was v.nice, beach great at location. However outside of the gates , the beach is a ghetto on the water. Locals peddling everything from jewelry, music, food, to prostutites. Casino was terrible , staff was rude,& incompetent. While playing black jack dealer made mistakes counting. I stopped counting at 7 mistakes In 2 hours , 3 different dealers , Took my money when I won & also paid me when I lost. Management , stated "What do you want me to do, she made a mistake ?" Myself & several other patrons left immedetially.

Never again...HORRIBLE!

Horrible is the best word to describe this hotel. This place was a complete JOKE. I paid a little extra for the premium room and im glad I did because all I kept reading was the standard room were dirty...I believe it. We were upgraded to an Ocean View room which was OK (there wasnt much of a view- there was a huge hut and palm trees in front of my balcony which blocked the view anyways). The appearance of the rooms are nice but the damp, dingy smell in the room was gross, not to mention the fact that the air didnt work. I guess that explains the moldy, misty smell. We complained about the air conditioner not working and they said they were "fixing it." Someone came up to the room, pretended to play with the vent. before that another guy came in to spray the room...basically sprayed air freshener to make the room smell better. I will never return to this hotel. The food and customer service was terrible... The only good thing was the beach...the weather was gorgeous but you had to wake up at 8am to get a cabana type thing. There is one restaurant that was not included in the all inclusive package...looks nice but I was so turned off by everything else I honestly didnt think it could be any better.

not impressed

I didn’t expect much based on other reviews on this site but I had a flicker of hope that maybe people are just too spoiled with American conveniences but this place was just so horrible. The garden rooms are extremely old and dirty. the window was broken so there were mosquitoes all night. the beds were uncomfortable spring types that moved around with the slightest pressure applied.

It was overall Fun. Quite satisfied. But will visit another location of Oasis now.

Decent Resort. Friendly staff... Lots of activities available in the resort itself, so so need to go out as such. The Beach was good but had some grass in the water so did not enjoy the beach too much. But had lots of fun at the resort in itself. They have many shows happening every day in the evening in their theatre and beach fun filled activites time to time during the day. Over all it was good.

Terrible Place

Whomever rated this hotel as 3.5 stars, must have stayed somewhere else. It was a 1.5 star. The room was old and not maintained. The staff was rude, non-responsive, and not client centered. We did not have any water at 7pm, 2 of the 4 nights of our stay. Hot water - Forget it! When you call the desk, they say we’ll look into it. If you ask when, they don’t know.... Towels??- try and get more than 2 for your room.... If you want to buy a timeshare, you might like it. They allow time share vendors to continuously harass you wherever you walk- and even laying at the beach! How many times do you have to say no to the same person! The food was ok, but the staff in the 2 restaurants we went to, were only interested in making sure they left on time. We waited over and hour for our meal 1 night, and on another night, the food was cold, and they were out of our selections.

Dissappointed, Not impressed at all.

not much activity on the resort itself no wave runners, that was really important to us.. The surrounding location outside the resort looked like a bomb hit there. Garbage bags and trash all over the place . The locals will try to sell you stuff some of it is really pretty but very pricey. I taked a guy down from an item that he wanted $40 USD and i paid $6 USD just because i felt he was taking me for a ride and i proved he was.. I always never paid the price they ask for. They jack up the price on everything. The Bartenders were very nice and the front desk help was helpful.. But when u called the operator for things u need to your room they never came.... Houskeeping was not good at all.. floors were dirty in our 2 rooms we had. Yes we had to switch rooms. We will never go back again...

Much better than expected

After reading the other reviews I wasn’t sure what we were in store for. Overall our family of six (four childrend ages 5-11) enjoyed our stay. The ocean view rooms were very nice and updated. The restaurants had a lot of variety and were very good for an all-inclusive. The beach is very-well maintained and reasonably sized. The pools are well-kept as are the tennis courts, mini-golf and shuffle-board. There is some local tourism shopping just a few blocks away. Negatives: Check-in did take longer than usual which is typical for most DR accommodations and we had to have our keys recharged twice. Most guests were DR natives or European (a few topless European sunbathers). The locals were easy-going while the Europeans were much more demanding. As a whole, not many people in the DR speak much English, so do others a courtesy and learn some common phrases in Spanish...especially Hablo Espanol muy pequito.

We stayed here two nights before going futher inland for four nights to visit our Compassion child. This resort was a good transition to help our boys acclimate to another language/environment.

Damon

I read some of the reviews prior to my vacation. I made my mind up that I would keep an open mind. I said to myself that I would not be one of those negative persons that complained about everything. I was thinking some people just cannot relax. It did not take long before the stories I read became true. It took forty five minutes for me to check in. There was line. I was standing at the counter. Everyone behind the counter passed me as if I had not been standing there. Once I became rude I then got attention. I then had to argue with one of them because he tried to make me pay again while I was showing him that I had already paid through Expedia. My room was not clean and had bugs in it. We had two towels for a family of four to share. There were no wash cloths or soap. The air condition sounded like a motorcycle and that made it hard to sleep. The toilet would not flush and it took an hour for them to fix it. Half the lights in the room worked. The alarm clock did not. This is with out a doubt the worst room I have ever been in. Be prepared to harass on the property and off. On site they will be on you about a timeshare. The food is okay at best. Leaving this morning they tried to charge me for beach towels I never received. I only recommend this hotel if you are staying in Boca Chica. It may be the best on there.

Definitely won’t go back.....not a good hotel.

I guess all-inclusive means you get no service. This hotel was horrible. Most of the hotel staff could care less about you if you didn’t speak fluent Spanish. The drinks were horrible, food was mostly bad. The bathroom shower curtain had mold growing on it. The worst was the night life. Everything closed down at 6:30PM, including all pools and the BEACH! They had security on the beach to prevent night swimming. Unless you wanted to go outside the resort (which was SCARY), there was nothing to do at night except drink. We ended up going to bed at 9PM every night, which was good considering the walls were so thin you heard everything all night long in the commons areas and hallways. The beach was nice, however, the skyline of the cranes, etc. in the port right next to it didn’t make for great pictures. All in all, not a good honeymoon!

very nice accomedations

The rooms were large bright & airy. we had a beautiful view of the ocean & pools the balcony was very spacious, The only negative was that the room door to the hallway was not soundproof & with the absence of rug / runners on the tile ( marble ) floors, you heard every foot step & conversation echoing in the hall way @ night it was even more noticable, not good if you re a light sleeper

Traveler's tip

It’s a good idea to pack first aid supplies Tums, Immodium, advil , tylenol etc. One of the people in our group experienced some stomach upset.. The hotel gift shop had these items for sale @ a dollar a pill.

Good Bargain, poor check-in.

Oasis Hamaca is an all-inclusive resort with all of the expected amenities. The rooms and property are beautiful; there are activities, open restaurants/ bars 24 hours per day. Yet, I was surprised by the delay at check-in. Despite arriving after the post check-in time of 3 PM, our room was not ready until after 6PM. Additionally, housekeeping services were delayed on a regular basis. They seemed to be understaffed. Our rooms were not cleaned until after 5 PM on a daily basis. Twice the housekeeper forgot to restock towels, shampoo or other essentials.

It was ok

Check in process slow.Definitely crowded on weekends.Food was ok. Best Bet at the Buffet was to go for a piece of freshly cooked fish from the grill. Food not quite to american tastes but good variety and could usually find something I liked. Service staff seemed a bit overworked. Sometimes difficult to get something cold to drink. Bar drinks a bit dissappointing. Very small glasses, not very tasty. Beer was good and it was ususually cold. Based on other comments on expedia I upgraded to an ocean view room and it was excellent. It looks like it had recently been updated. Took a long time for water to get hot but I didn’t any of the other problems with the room mentioned by other guests. It did take a while to get fresh towels. There was construction going on on the west side of the hotel when I was there 8/09 so there was some jackhammers going during the day. Some of the oceanview rooms have a balcony and some do not. Pools nice. Breakfast by the beach was nice. Beach and ocean calm as there is an outer reef blocking the waves. Very nice to walk out into the ocean and very nice at night when quiet. Area outside the resort a bit scary. Very convenient to las americas airport, only about 4 miles away. Tourist Taxis very expensive. Lots of people want tips for minor assistance. A local told me he thought this was the best resort in the Boca Chica area. If your trip is purely leisure I had the feeling that better resorts were available at punta cana albeit at higher prices.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Expedia sells hotel transfers from the airport in conjunction with Club Caribe. It was worth it. Substantially cheaper than regular toursit taxis. I was met personally and escorted to transportation immediately. Pickup at the hotel was good too. Not sure why they wanted me at the airport 3 hours before flight time. I did have to endure a modest sales pitch for additional tour services from the Club Caribe guys.

Good and Bad things, but will recommend this place for sure

The "guest rooms" seem unbearable (the ones facing the garden). If you can afford an upgrade do not hesitate to get an "Ocean View Room" - they’re of much much better condition. We played the cheeky game of returning back to the reception 3 times after viewing our rooms, eventually we got complimentary upgrade. Took us almost an hour to check-in (and feeling bad for the porter to carry our luggages to and forth), but trust me IT IS WORTH IT. You have to fight to get a good room here! Now the good things: The beach is beautiful, and with a lot of nice seating areas (including love shacks). And the "ALL INCLUSIVE" package they offer just cannot be beaten. 5 restaurants and 7 bars for you to eat and drink ALL DAY ALL NIGHT. That’s the best thing about this vacation! Important tips for Guys, Boca Chica is full of women. But Oasis Hamaca has strict restriction of letting non-guests enter the premise (wrist bands are required). So to bring "girls" back to your resort, you gotta pay for like a day pass which is extra USD80.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Don’t go to any Boca Chica night clubs on your own. Go with a local. You can find anyone in the hotel resort (try concierge) who’s willing to drive you there and even keep you company all day and night(with little tips). Go to Santo Domingo if you can. Plenty of GREAT night clubs!! But it’s a little far to drive (took us an hour and getting lost few times). Hire a car, unless you’re willing to pay USD70 to go to Santo Domingo and back. Car hire is USD30-40 a day.

Sweeeeeeeet!!!!

The Oasis Hamaca is an unforgettable place. Everything from the hospitality, food, amenities, drinks was outstanding. Anyone who goes there will have a marvelous time!!! The hotel facility is beautiful to look at but the older areas/rooms of the hotel are starting to show their age. Simple things such as old dressers, missing toilet paper roll holders, missing furniture handles somewhat take away from the perfect picture of the place however, the gorgeous hotel, the superb restaurants & food choices and its lovely staff help you forget about the little things. I for one [and those who I traveled with have no problem going back there.]

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Going to the colonial area of Santo Domingo is a nice treat. Be careful when using taxi cabs to get you there as the drivers are out to make money and may not willingly tell you that the places you wish to see may be closed on that particular day. They may try to steer you elsewhere and then ask for their money because you did visit something. Check local dates & times of the places you wish to go to before you arrange the taxi service.

Not Bad Close to Airport

The hotel is expanding and they have not expanded their main eating area so expect a nice wait to be seated. Food is alright. Over all service is good and the great thing is that you are less than 10 minutes from the airport. Beach is beautiful and great if you have kids because most areas are low.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Try and take a trip to Santo Domingo the capitol. Also go to "Los Tres Ojos" the three eyes. Lots to see and great history for the kids

Fair for the price

Nice environment, good food and drinks as part of the all inclusive package. Overall service at the hotel is nice and there different restaurants, with type of food (Italian, local food style, Mexican, etc.) that you can choose, besides the buffet. Rooms needs a little bit of comfort, especially in the air conditioning cooling unit. Overall for what we pay is fair enough, compared to other places to stay that does not have the all inclusive option.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Try to spend most of you time inside the private facilities of the Hotel. Outside of the hotel premises, people bother you with articles for sale, asking for money and don’t let you walk freely without asking if you want to buy this or that.

can’t wait to go back

I’ve been to this resort twice already. It is a lot of fun. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff is extremely nice. We went off the resort during the day and there wasn’t any problems and it was pretty safe. The activities during the day was fun. The entertainment staff basically becomes your friends and you become very comfortable with them. I recommend doing the water aerobics, it’s a lot of fun. The mattresses in the middle of the water is fun. The beach is amazing, no waves and shallow from the carribean sea, much better than punta cana which is on the atlantic ocean. The non-motorized water sports are included, I would recommend sailing to the little island off coast, very romantic and the beach provides privacy. Go to the shows every night, they are a lof of fun. The restaurants aren’t that great but the buffet is good.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Join all the activities, no one knows you there and you’ll have more fun

Don’t waste your time or money!

We had to change rooms three times before we received okay rooms. The rooms were dirty, a/c is room temperature, we had plumbing issues(i.e. sink flooding, no cold water). Pillows were moldy, sheets dirty. We had to wait almost 24hrs for pillowcases and towels. There are guards in the hallways and in the front of the hotel which made me feel uncomfortable and the area is extremely poor. Also the gives day and weekend passes to the locals so it’s a full of locals instead of vacationers. Check in took 3hrs the day we arrived. The only positives about the hotel are the wait staff were helpful and nice and the pool was clean. Otherwise the hotel is in need of better management, organization and room renovations.

If you decide to book this hotel bring Lysol, sheets and flashlights.
