Venice, Italy

Love is in the air Love conquers all, even a bad economy. While you're scrimping and saving to afford a once-in-a-lifetime honeymoon or special vacation, use the downtime to scope out 10 of the planet's most romantic destinations -- so when you're good to go, you'll know where to go to make memories that last a lifetime! Venice, Italy Gondolas of snuggled lovers quietly slip through inky black canals at sunset. City lights dance on the water and set romance aglow as the evening darkness draws in. In Venice , all is quieter in the evening, when the day tourists are gone and lovers are left behind to stroll through narrow city streets and across small bridges. Dinners along the Grand Canal are splendid, especially at the Naranzaria in the heart of the Rialto, where the specialty of the house is raw food. If money is no object, lovers can sleep like royalty in the Gritti Palace , an actual doge’s palace built in 1525. By day, the Bridge of Sighs whi...

Italian Island

Charming Lake Como Once well-known for its attractive villas, the Italian island of Lake Como, also known as Lario, has a new claim to fame: George Clooney. Joining the ranks of distinguished 19-centruy artists, writers, politicians, crowned heads and intellectuals, Clooney chose Lake Como as a place to call home. Maintaining the feel of an old-world Mediterranean fishing village, Lake Como continues to inspire artists and visitors with its breathtaking backdrop of the pre-Alps and surrounding olive and orange trees. Wild Northwest Thought to be the best kept secret in the United States, Netarts, a secluded rugged coastline beauty with miles of sandy beaches complimented by dramatic rocky bays, is a small bit of paradise right here in our own backyard. With a plethora of outdoor activities, local attractions, beach life, and a handful of RV Parks and camping grounds with a view overlooking the beach, sporty couples can mix a bit of roughing it, with romance.

Ciao Italia!

It takes only one trip to Italy to become enamored with her culture, history, people and food. Of the five Cinque Terre towns located in the Riviera di Levante region, Riomaggiore is the most southern. This quaint hillside village sprawls down to a small beach and an even smaller wharf. Other Cinque Terre towns, all linked together by a trail, are known for their shopping and long beaches. Most of Riomaggiore's social life centers on the local bars after sundown.

An armchair tour of Italy

It takes only one trip to Italy to become enamored with her culture, history, people and food. Sink yourself into a comfy chair with a cup of espresso and a biscotti. "Benvenuto all'Italia!" - Welcome to Italy! Canals are the only roads in the car-less city of Venice and, the only vehicles are boats. Even the FedEx truck is a boat! About 400 bridges connect the 118 small islands that make up Venice. In the past, Venice's gondolas were a means of transportation from one part of the city to another. Today, they're used by tourists, or for weddings, funerals, and other ceremonies.
